Are you passionate about rural Scotland, concerned about the wellbeing of rural communities and actively involved with rural issues at local, regional or national levels? Are you excited by the idea of building connections between rural communities and issues and enabling their voice to be heard at national level? Do you have some time to contribute to the development of Scottish Rural Action and building its unique and important role? Then read the job description for Directors and apply to us by Monday January 27, 2020.
Scottish Rural Action (SRA) was established in 2013 with the dual objectives of delivering the Scottish Rural Parliament and developing a rural community movement. The biennial Scottish Rural Parliament is now recognised as a strong voice to advocate for rural Scotland; priority rural issues are identified and addressed, working in consultation with local and national interests; a strong relationship with the Scottish Government enables advocacy. The focus of our development activity is now on building Scotland’s rural movement. We are doing this in partnership with the Scottish Government, other organisations and rural communities. This is an exciting challenge, which holds the potential to build an inclusive platform for rural people, interests and places.
SRA itself is also embracing significant changes in the way it is structured and operates, and the Directors will play an important role in this change process. We are developing connections across all regions of rural Scotland, and mechanisms for enabling the voice of rural people to be expressed at national level and with policy makers. We are also strengthening links with partner organisations with specific rural interests. We aim to embed this change at both Board and Staff level, and we will be recruiting both Staff and Board Members with the capacities to deliver this agenda.
At our AGM on February 27, 2020, we are looking to appoint up to 8 new Directors. To complement the existing Directors, we are looking for one or more of the following attributes in our new Directors:
- From a rural region of Scotland, with priority on the north of Scotland and Perthshire
- Active in a rural development context, at local, regional or national levels
- From one of our national partner organisations
- Having skills in finance, rural policy or communications
If you are interested in standing as a Director of SRA please read the following job description and apply by email, with a personal statement of not more than 500 words, outlining why you are interested in becoming a board member of SRA and how you would contribute to its work, according to the responsibilities and duties listed. Please also give details of 2 suitable referees (to be contacted upon application). Applicants will be assessed by the SRA recruitment committee for their suitability. Approved candidates will be put forward for the election which concludes at the AGM on February 27, 2020. You will be informed of progress.
